Content:
This unit will critically examine in
depth the history and major theories of globalisation and its far-reaching
ramifications. After exploring the phenomenon of globalisation
this unit will focus on exploration of significant interfaith and
theoretical perspectives and discussion of the imperatives of dialogue,
justice, security, economic viability, political and cultural democracy
for the common good.
Learning Outcomes:
Upon successful
completion of this unit, it is expected that students will be
able to demonstrate:
- appropriate research skills for the theoretical and historical analysis of globalisation.
- an
understanding of selected cultural
systems, religious traditions and ideologies which have local
and global ramifications.
- the application of critical theoretical
tools and concepts to critically evaluate global events and
their origin.
- an
ability to critically discuss phenomena such as religious fundamentalism,
terrorism, neo-colonialism and imperialism
and liberalism and their relationship to globalisation.
